All in Mind

Pills & Potions : Defending Meds

Weird right? That I have to defend taking medication? People won’t judge you for taking an Advil for your hangover  or a Z-pack for your strep throat. Hell, most people won’t judge you if you decide to roll at *insert music festival of choice*. (This is a judgement free zone but please, Roll Responsibly) So why is it that when people with mental illnesses disclose that they're on meds, they’re faced with a barrage of misinformed bullshit?

Beach is Better: Do Not Disturb Travel Series

Congrats! You’ve made it to your destination without selling your soul to the devil in exchange for the silence of the teething toddler next to you. Honestly, truly, you deserve a medal. You’ve arrived and it is finally time to get your Dora the Explorer on. 37 things to see, 54 places to go, and 105 dishes to taste, all in the next 4.5 days. I may not know much about algebra but I do know that it adds up to quite a time crunch.

Take Care

Raise your hand if you feel personally victimized by the Monday to Friday 9-5 grind? Raises both hands. If you haven’t noticed by now, college may have left you a bit spoiled. It’s a well-known fact of life that college is a stressful and transitional time so most schools build self-care into their culture to lessen the burden.  (Shout out to the finals week petting zoo!) But now you’ve graduated and realized plot twist: life actually can get more stressful and transitional. Everyone is honestly, truly, going through it but there is something you can do about it. Taking care of your mind, body, and soul or self-care is where you can start.

Let's Talk About STATS Baby!

Let’s think back for a minute. How many times since becoming an “adult” have you felt anxious, stressed, and/or close to your breaking point? Expectations include: gunning for that promotion, keeping up with old friends, making new friends, spending time with (or finding) a significant other, keeping a budget, eating real food, exercising, drinking water, and keeping up with pop culture and politics. That’s all while enjoying the best years of your life. It’s exciting, sure, but it’s oftentimes overwhelming and lonely and bound to take its toll after a while. Just like all the other life sustaining skills they didn’t teach us in school (looking at you, taxes), we were never taught how to take care of our whole selves. Result? We’re tired, uninspired, sick, and wondering if there is more to life. There is.
