Power Trip: Do Not Disturb Travel Series
Ever notice that in the weeks and months leading up to a vacation, getting away is all you can think about? This flight foreplay is scientifically proven, a lot of the trip benefits actually come before you even pack your bags. The day dreaming and planning and learning about your destination is giving your mind a mini-vacation by transporting you from your current state and into the good times ahead. So, if you find yourself on Kayak during your all company meeting that should’ve been an email, now you know why. But along with excitement sometimes anxiety comes along for the ride. Don’t let the pressure ruin your pre-paradise chill vibes. The Do Not Disturb series will give you everything you need to stay stress free, before, during, and after your trip.
- Better call Sharon- Yes, I know you cleared your days off with your manager and HR, but that was three months ago and they probably repressed that memory out of jealousy. Mention it casually and make sure there are plans for who will be covering your duties while you’re gone.
- Pack it up- Try to start packing at least a full day before departure. I know, I know, but hear me out. Keep a list on your phone and write down everything that pops in to your mind because you WILL forget something. But this way it’s more likely to be something minor than, you know, pants.
- Take a video or facetime with someone as you do your last checks of the house- can’t freak out the entire ride to the airport about starting a house fire because you left your straightener on if you had someone to assure you that yes, yes you did.
- Just breathe- No matter what blissful destination you’re headed for, travel is always sprinkled with stress. Traffic, delays, crying babies. Do whatever makes you most relaxed as much as you can in your downtime. Do yoga, put some lavender on your pressure points, meditate, or just sit with your headphones in. I mean honestly, the best part of waiting for a flight is watching the planes take off and pretending you’re in a music video…right?
- And anotha one- If you’re going on a flight that is longer than a nap, be prepared. I’m talking books, E-books, chargers, podcasts, movies. Especially for the long hauls, you’ll want several options when you figure out that the movie you downloaded is actually the German version with 0 subtitles or the podcasts all have to do with plane crashes. It’s always good to have options.
The worst feeling you can have after your vacation is feeling like you need a vacation. Nothing will make traveling completly stress free but you’ll definitely be the most #Zen passenger on the plane. Besides, how you gonna be mad on vacation?
